AN INTRIGUING SCOTTISH POETIC PASTICHE

When rummaging through a box of dog-eared old books, pamphlets and papers we picked up at a dark and dusty curiosity shop in Moniaive (not far from Dumfries) we discovered this single sheet, presumably hacked out of a now lost volume published in the late 18th, perhaps early 19th century.

At first the poetic fragment seemed familar, but on closer inspection it turned out to be not quite what we were expecting [text or  or  or ]. But we heartily agreed with the (presumably pseudonymous) poet.
